a.n.a. "a new approach"

If you are anything like me; you always find that when your life is not going the way that it should, you feel like everything is your fault. Especially things that you cannot control. You feel like you do not deserve the happiness that you see on everyone else around you. You want to be punished... You NEED to be punished.

What if..... instead of looking at life this way we found a new approach? I recently discovered a specific brand of clothing called "a.n.a." which stands for "a new approach." Which got me thinking what if we all looked at life with a new approach, or at a different angle? How are we supposed to do that? We do not deserve to do that? We have not been putting ourselves through enough?

I cannot answer these questions for you. Only for myself. This is what I want you to do. Consider it a personal challenge for recovery. Go up to the mirror, take a picture of all of the things that you like about yourself. Now don't get me wrong I know what some of you are thinking. "Well what if I don't like anything about myself?" It doesn't matter what it is, if its your smile or your eyes or maybe you like the way your nose is shaped. I did this today, I took a picture of my toes, my feet, my finger nails, my eyes and my smile. (Notice I did not mention any major body parts.)

What this does is gets you thinking about the good in your life, and on your body. I want you to do this every week. You will notice over time you will start finding more and more things that you like about yourself. Keep in mind there will always be things you want to improve or feel like you need to work on, and that is okay! It's totally normal! But for right now try to focus on the good things.

While your doing this also sit down, grab a journal and write down all the good qualities that you have, if you can draw, or sing, or if you are really good at making free throws, anything!  Write down all the good things going on around you, you're alive, you have family that loves you, you have a good job, you make good grades, anything at all.

Every week you need to read this list, or even every day. Doing this will help you condition your mind into thinking about good things instead of bad. Thinking of things that makes you happy will trigger your brain and help change your mind set on life. That is what we need to do, change our mind set! Do this and find your "new approach."  I promise you will feel better almost instantly. In no way am I saying that this alone will help you recover; but it will make you feel better for a bit.

I have always used this in recovery and I find myself either in tears or at least smiling when I write all of this down. And I want you all to smile too!!

If you decide to do this comment below and tell me how it made you feel!! Don't hold anything back! You can save someones life.

Until next time my flowers!

  1. Hello Bloom,

My name is Amna. I am a Masters student at KTH stockholm and I am married. I have been suffering from this disease for about two years now This disease has made my life miserable in the past and still there are times in my life when things get almost hopeless. I am under recovery phase. I have an electrical engineering background. I have just taken a course on entrepreneurship for engineers. While studing that, I have realized why not use my computer skills to develop something for such patients. So i have an idea. I want to take your feedback on this idea. Actually, I want to pursue this idea for a startup. If it is possible for you, can you provide me your feedback about the device which i am thinking to develop for Anorexia nervosa patients. Your feedback will help me to improve my idea.
    My idea is as follows:

My main idea is to develop a wearable product comprising of different kinds of sensors together with a Smart phone Application to provide necessary information to the Anorexia nervosa patient about his condition and improvement on a daily basis. There are already many wearable products in the market today related to health e.g. intelligent asthma management by Health Care Originals, Cyrcadia Health’s iTBra, Vitaliti by Cloud DX, Google Smart Contact Lenses etc. [4]. However, there is no such product specifically designed for anorexia nervosa patients which can help them to fight with this mental illness like a close friend on a daily basis. Since there are many factors which contribute to the development of this disease, my product will be targeting the most important ones which are body weight, body fat, body mass index, heart rate, skin temperature and anxiety. Symptoms of this disease which are visible to others as well include low body weight and loss of fat which leads to many complications including slow growth rate in young and loss of fertility in women [5]. Moreover, since patients try to keep their body thin, they try to indulge in extreme physical activities and exercises which can ruin their recovery phase. Heart rate, skin temperature and anxiety can be used to reflect the state of physical and mental stress levels [6].

    1. Sounds like something that could be successful with the right tools and target audience. Could you email me so we could talk about this more? bloomthin@yahoo.com
